The city of Greeley's annual Fishing Derby is set to take place at 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Sanborn Park, 2032 28th Ave. for anglers age 5 and older.
Fishing licenses are not required to participate in the free event thanks to the Colorado Division of Wildlife's free fishing weekend promotion June 4-5.
The lake will be stocked in advance with trout, creating ample opportunities for participants to hook and reel in a fish.
Organizers will be giving away prizes every 30 minutes throughout the derby for smallest fish, biggest fish, most fish caught and other categories. Prizes will include fishing poles, tackle boxes, chairs and other items. Participants of all ages can sign up for the drawings and prize giveaways at the Greeley Recreation tent that will be located by the playground.
Registration is not required to attend and participants will need to bring their own fishing gear as well as chairs and coolers.
