The University of North Dakota plans on debuting an esports major during the Fall 2022 semester, which will be available online. The school had previously offered an esports coaching minor as well as other gaming-focused electives. As a result, UND is set to be the first North Dakota-based college to offer a gaming major.

"I don't think we're the first in the country to do this, but we're the first to create a major in North Dakota and I think we're in good company doing so," said Dr. Sandra Moritz, the Esports Director at UND. "The communications courses, there are computer science courses, there are sports business courses, so there are a whole bunch of different areas. We're really hoping that a lot of people interested in Esports will come and make a career out of Esports, and it's not just the gaming."

UND is a four-year public institution that is located in Grand Forks, North Dakota. As of the Fall 2020 semester, there were over 9,700 students enrolled at the school.
