Romelu Lukaku will be relishing more than most the chance to return to FA Cup action when Chelsea face Luton Town tonight.

The Belgian has endured plenty of ups and downs during his time in England but football's oldest competition has always been one he has enjoyed.

Lukaku made a promising start on his return to Stamford Bridge by scoring three goals in his opening five league games.

However, his campaign has stumbled after suffering an ankle injury and contracting COVID-19.

Lukaku was since an unused substitute in Chelsea's Champions League win over Lille while he was named on the bench in the Carabao Cup final.

The 28-year-old did feature in the 0-0 penalty shootout defeat to Liverpool and scored his spot-kick during the epic 11-10 defeat.

But Lukaku also had a potential winning goal chalked off during extra-time for the most marginal of offside decisions.

The striker's impressive cameo at Wembley will surely be enough for him to earn a starting berth against Luton on Wednesday, live on talkSPORT.

And a return to FA Cup action could not have come at a more opportune time with Lukaku boasting an impressive record in the competition.

The £98million star's first FA Cup goal was back in March 2014 during his time at Everton in a quarter-final clash away at Arsenal.

Lukaku cancelled out Mesut Ozil's early strike at the Emirates before the Gunners eventually ran out 4-1 winners.

Since (and including) that game, only Leicester star Kelechi Iheanacho's 15 goals in the competition proper are more than Lukaku's 14.

That stat is particularly impressive considering Lukaku spent two seasons at Inter Milan and has never even won the FA Cup, unlike the Nigerian who has spent his whole career in England and lifted the trophy last season.

The closest he has come was his Wembley final defeat to current side Chelsea during his debut season at Manchester United.

Lukaku has already set about righting that wrong this season, starting both of Chelsea's FA Cup matches against Chesterfield and Plymouth and scoring in the 5-1 win over the former.

And the Belgium international can take another step towards proving his doubters wrong by taking the Blues one step closer to returning to Wembley.
