Tyrone Mings has come to the defence of Harry Maguire, saying the social media reaction to a clip of the centre-back in England training has been 'ridiculous'.

The Manchester United defender went viral when he seemingly did not understand the rules to a game of rondo.

Maguire came under fire on social media for the clip

Henderson could be seen glaring at Maguire

The England players managed to rack up more than 40 passes while Nick Pope and Jack Grealish struggled to disrupt their rhythm.

That was until Maguire came along, taking an extra touch, allowing Pope to jump in.

The group in possession, including the likes of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham and appeared a bit confused.

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson - who was heard counting out the successful passes - stopped dead to glare at his international teammate and appeared to say to him: "What are you doing?"

talkSPORT asked Aston Villa defender Mings about the clip and he explained what really happened and said the full context was not given.

"I think it's ridiculous really," Mings said. "We got to about 45 passes and he stopped the ball and I can only presume, there's no other reason to stop the ball at that point, it was to give the people in the middle a breather.

"Once you get to 20 passes you are in for another one, so the two that were in there anyway were going to be in for another two anyway when it got to 42, 43.

Mings hit out at those jumping to conclusions at the clip

"He's actually giving them a breather to say 'that's enough, let's start again'.

"To take a negative spin on that just shows people don't always know what is going on and don't quite understand the full context of the video.

"But for social media these days the truth is sometimes far less exciting or sending something viral."
