Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney were teammates in one of the greatest Manchester United sides all of time, now their sons are looking to follow in their footsteps.

During their fives campaigns together at Old Trafford, Ronaldo and Rooney had an excellent understanding of each other on the pitch, which brought great success.

Rooney and Ronaldo formed a key partnership at United in their five seasons together

They won three consecutive Premier League titles together, as well as the Champions League in 2008.

Now, Kai Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo Jr are hoping for the same, having both netted playing together for Manchester United's U12 side against West Brom.

Kai, who is the son of the current Derby boss Wayne, joined the United setup in 2020, while Ronaldo Jr has been with the Premier League club's youth side for around a month.

"Cristiano Jr & Kai Rooney both scored for Manchester United U12s.

"Kai Rooney is on 10 goals in 5 games this month… This link up is familiar", Instagram account @risingballers said of the combination, relating to the two academy players' fathers.

Whilst both have been shining in the United academy, Ronaldo is preparing to take on North Macedonia in a crucial World Cup play-off, while Rooney is trying to help Derby avoid relegation from the Championship.

"We'll see if my son will become a great footballer," Ronaldo said of his son two years ago.

"He has potential. He is fast and dribbles well, but that is not enough.

"I always tell him that it takes work and dedication to have success. I won't pressure him to become a footballer, but if you ask me if I want him to, yes I would like it.

"The most important thing is to become the best at whatever he does, whether it is as a footballer or a doctor."
