In the hopes of strengthening the agriculture sector, the Rotary Club of Makati opened the Hack4Food project encouraging the youth to tap into their digital competence.

The "Hack4Food: Agriculture and Food Innovation Challenge 2022" is a one-week virtual hackathon that will give the youth a chance to show their digital skills and create tools that would address agriculture and food challenges.

"The hackathon challenges the youth to use their creative talent to design value chain systems, develop forecasting models, engage farmers in crop diversification," said Atty. Luis Aseoche, president, Rotary Club of Makati. "They can empower them by improving overall efficiency and productivity, upgrading operations, and increasing profit."

The results of Hack4Food hackathon are hoped to improve the lives of farmers and fisherfolks through enhanced economies of scale (reduced production costs, increased yields, decreased cost per unit of output).

Using digital technologies and data analytics, the organizers hope to enhance the overall farm productivity and efficiency that would support farmers in their step to crop diversifcation. Farmers and fisherfolk can make use of detection and forecasting technologies that can aid in their production and distribution decisions.

The participants can use whatever technology they think best suits the tools they intend to develop. One example is Arduino, an open-source electronic prototyping platform enabling users to create interactive electronic objects.

Along with Rotary Club of Makati, Rotary Club of Bay, Rotaract Club of Makati, and the Analytics Association of the Philippines (AAP) also support the hackathon.

Criteria:
• Groups of 2-5 or individuals
• Filipino citizens within the Philippines
• No age limit
