[New post] Rangers warned Aaron Ramsey ‘won’t make a dot of difference’ – despite Ally McCoist hailing ex-Arsenal man ‘biggest signing since Paul Gascoigne’

Rangers have been warned not to expect much of an impact from incoming signing Aaron Ramsey, despite claims the former Arsenal midfielder is the club's biggest signing since Paul Gascoigne.
Ramsey moved to Turin on a free transfer in 2019 after spending nine years with Arsenal in the Premier League, yet failed to kick-start his career in Italy.
The 31-year-old has played just 112 minutes of football for Juve this season and a move to Scotland could well be what he needs for his career.
Even though Rangers will cover a small part of his reported £400,000-a-week salary, former West Ham striker Dean Ashton urged caution about the move.
That's despite Rangers legend Ally McCoist comparing the midfielder's move to ex-teammate Gazza's arrival in 1995.
"It's clearly fantastic business from Rangers, to be able to pull this off," Ashton told talkSPORT's Drive.
"Albeit I don't think he won't make a dot of difference because he barely plays, he can't stay fit, I would question his character because he is always able to find himself to be fit and playing for Wales.
"Every time I watch him for Wales, I am like 'wow – he is still absolutely the player who could be in the Premier League or anywhere over Europe.'
"Then I see when he does come on for Juve and I'm like, 'That's not the same player; why can't you stay fit?'
"Is it because Wales allow him to maybe be at 80%, maybe miss training and they manage him well? Is it just his mentality, what is it?
"That has to be put into question; which Aaron Ramsey is turning up for Rangers?"
The former Wales captain could well make his debut on Wednesday in the Old Firm clash against bitter Glasgow rivals Celtic at Parkhead.
And Ibrox great McCoist has no doubt about the boost Ramsey will bring to the Rangers team as they aim to defend their Scottish Premiership title.
"I'm absolutely ecstatic at the news Aaron Ramsey has signed for Rangers," he told talkSPORT.
"I am really excited. It is just what Rangers fans needed, what the team needed – a boost in the middle of the park.
"I'm trying to think back to when Rangers made a signing like this and I'm going back to Gascoigne and people like that – this is how big I think this signing could be.
"I know he has not been playing, a little bit out of favour at Juventus, but what a footballer Aaron Ramsey is. It is a brilliant signing for Rangers and Scottish football.
"An on-form Aaron Ramsey in the middle of the park is as good as anything anywhere in Scottish football. If we can get hit fit and get him in that team - dear me!
"I haven't seem him play consistently for a little while now, but let me tell you, an on-form Aaron Ramsey is as good as anything and if we get him fit and plays regularly, he will shine in Scotland, there's no doubt about that.
"It's a signing that I hope will enhance our league challenge - we've dipped a little bit and everybody needs a boost and Ramsey just might be the boost that gets rangers to retain the title!"
McCoist added on the talkSPORT Breakfast: "I couldn't believe it. It just reminded me seeing all the footage of Gascoigne arriving at Ibrox all those years ago.
"It would have to be [as a big a signing for Rangers since Gazza]. I can't remember the last time we signed someone from Juventus!"
"And if he's half as successful as Paul, and half as big a hit with the fans as Paul was, then Rangers have made a fantastic signing. I genuinely am thrilled.
"He's an extremely talented player with wonderful ability, wonderful vision and a great touch on the ball.
"Things have not gone the way we would have wished at Juventus, however, things didn't go the way Paul wanted at Lazio... so you never know!"
