[New post] Liverpool starlet Harvey Elliott contacted by FA regarding red flare celebration as Kostas Tsimikas is ‘reminded of his duties’ after spitting from royal box following thrilling victory over Chelsea in Carabao Cup final
Phil Spencer posted: " The Football Association have written to Harvey Elliott regarding his role in Liverpool's celebrations following their Carabao Cup victory at Wembley. The Reds claimed their first trophy of the season by defeating Chelsea 11-10 on penalties foll"
It was Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa who missed the decisive spot-kick that sparked joyous scenes among players and fans alike of a Liverpool persuasion - one Kopite even took home the wayward ball!
Among those to enjoy the moment was Elliott who was seen holding a flare in the midst of the celebrations.
The FA were made aware of the incident on Sunday night and have contacted the 18-year-old for the details and his observations.
While it's unknown how Elliott got hold of the red smoke flare, supporters in the Liverpool end had let off pyrotechnics earlier in the match when Joel Matip saw a goal disallowed.
Liverpool are yet to comment on the situation, however they have reportedly acted regarding an incident involving another player.
Kostas Tsimikas was an unused substitute at Wembley but was a big part of the celebrations after the match as he joined his teammates in lifting the trophy.
While in the Royal Box, the full-back was pictured spitting into the Wembley stand below.
The Daily Mail report that the tier below was empty so no fans were impacted, but Liverpool are said to have reminded the player of his responsibilities. He didn't intend to hit anybody and Tsimikas is said to be 'apologetic' regarding the incident.
The celebrations could be the first of many, though, with Anfield legend Ian Rush suggesting Jurgen Klopp's side could become Liverpool's greatest ever team if they go on to win the quadruple this term.
Rush told talkSPORT: "I'd like to think so," he said when asked if winning four trophies was possible.
"If they did win the four they would have to go down as the greatest Liverpool team ever, I would say.
"We won three trophies in one year, so if they win four then they'd have to go down as the greatest team that the club have ever had.
"I know that's a strong feeling, but to win four would be absolutely incredible.
"They've got a chance, but one step at a time.
"There's a long way to go but Liverpool have got a strong squad."
