Edouard Mendy showed exactly why he was brought back into the Chelsea team for the Carabao Cup final as he made an incredible start to deny Liverpool star Sadio Mane.

The Reds looked set to take the lead at Wembley as Mane reacted quickest to Mendy getting down to his right to deny Naby Keita from distance.

But Mendy did incredibly to keep the ball out

But somehow, the net didn't bulge as Mendy got up brilliantly to deny his Senegal teammate's effort on the rebound.

Reacting to the save, Ally McCoist said on live commentary for talkSPORT: "I think that's as good as anything I've seen anywhere at any level at any time, honestly!

"His first save, where he gets down to his right hand side, is a great save but how he gets up and makes the second save from Mane is absolutely remarkable."

Kepa Arrizabalaga is Chelsea's designated cup goalkeeper, however, Thomas Tuchel opted to bring Mendy back for the final.

The save vindicates Tuchel's decision, says talkSPORT's Andy Townsend.

Townsend added: "In a nutshell, that vindicated exactly why Thomas Tuchel has done what he's done because that was just incredible work from Edouard Mendy, brilliant goalkeeping."

Mendy was rightly congratulated by his teammates for the fantastic stop
