A pizzeria in Germany had caused outrage in UEFA's headquarters because their mozzarella and mushroom dish is named 'Champignons League'.
European football's governing body were going to take legal action against Germany based restaurant, Pizza Wolke due to an infringement on their trademark of the 'Champions League' brand.
And although 'Champignons League' translates to 'Mushroom League' in German, UEFA were far from letting the name slide.
In a letter to the restaurant's owners, UEFA wrote: "We would like to inform you that in the present matter we are representing UEFA. Proper authorisation is vigorously assured by a lawyer."
Finding the whole situation hilarious, Pizza Wolke posted the letter on their Instagram page with caption: "Pizza Wolke Vs. UEFA€ Long live the pizza CHAMPI(G)NONS LEAGUE! I feel honoured ! As a kid of soccer! An advertisement by UEFA? Seriously?
"1) just shows me and my gang we definitely on the right track! My gang & I have hit a path and we won't stop until we're in every stomach and baked in every oven at some point! A man! A pizza! Let's see how far UEFA goes! BUY THE WORLD'S HOTTEST MUSHROOM PIZZA, everyone!"
According to German outlet Ran, the company violates UEFA's licensing law, which has had the term "Champions League" protected for the most prestigious competition in European club football.
UEFA confirmed the actions of the legal department at the request of German news agency SID.
However since the news broke out earlier on Tuesday, Global Sports Correspondent Rob Harris has confirmed UEFA does not have a problem with the name and that it was their local trade mark agent making a rash decision.
Champions League pizza saved!
"UEFA obviously takes the protection of its intellectual property seriously but this instance seems to be a case of an over-zealous local trade mark agent acting too hastily. The UEFA CL can happily live alongside this delicious-sounding pizza" https://t.co/C7wKnTGNTB
