Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski insists that the FIFA Best Player award 'matters more' than the Ballon d'Or.
The Polish striker, who has won FIFA's 'The Best' trophy for the last two years, was controversially snubbed for this year's Ballon d'Or, which was awarded to Lionel Messi.
Despite scoring 47 goals in 44 games during a year in which Bayern won a famous treble largely thanks to Lewandowski's unstoppable scoring, he didn't win the award.
Instead, he was beaten to the crown by Copa America winner and Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi, who picked up his seventh title.
He also missed out on the 2020 award, which many say he also deserved to win after winning his first Champions League, due to its cancellation by the global pandemic.
But he seems to be unbothered about the snub, claiming the FIFA Best Player award he won in January 'matters more'.
"I've been thinking about these two awards lately: FIFA Best Player and the Ballon d'Or," Lewandowski told Pilka Nozna.
"I've come to the conclusion that the FIFA award does matter more. Only journalists vote in the latter - there's no clear verification."
