Frank Lampard is hoping to bring Ashley Cole to his backroom staff at Everton, reports claim.

Lampard and Cole shared a glittering career at Chelsea, triumphing to a Premier League title and a Champions League trophy, as well as several other pieces of silverware in eight years together in west London.

Lampard, who was axed as Blues boss in January 2021, has landed his first management role since his sacking as he was confirmed as the new Toffees boss on deadline day.

Joe Edwards has left Chelsea to join his staff, while Duncan Ferguson is also remaining in place at the Merseyside club, while Chris Jones, whom Lampard worked with at Derby, has also joined the team.

Former Derby, Reading and Swansea manager Paul Clement also looks poised to join a first-team coach.

Lampard is also keen to bring in his former teammate Cole, who is now working as an academy coach at Stamford Bridge and for the England Under-21s.

According to the Evening Standard, talks have taken place to bring Cole on board and a decision will likely be announced in the coming days.

Cole admitted to talkSPORT he was surprised by Lampard's training methods after working with him at Derby for a year and seeing him on the training ground at Chelsea.

Now the pair are looking set to reunite at Everton

"I knew him as a player and as a friend, and then being able to work under him and see the way he works, his ideas and his understanding of the game – it was different to the guy I knew", he said.

"I'm not saying I didn't think he had it in him, of course he did. I was buzzing to see how he works, the enthusiasm he has coming to work, taking the sessions.

"For me, I told him: 'I don't want you to treat me as your friend. If I'm not training well, give me a rollicking and don't feel you have to play me'.

"We had that conversation before I joined and he said: 'Yeah I understand that, and I know how you are as a professional, so that won't happen'.
