Five Nights at Freddy's is an iconic horror franchise about possessed, murderous animatronics. The story of the game is pretty layered and plenty of questions are left unanswered at the end of the game. Most of Five Nights at Freddy's story is told through cryptic minigames and hidden messages, making plenty of room for fans to create their own theories.

Of course, this article will contain major spoilers concerning the core games of the Five Nights at Freddy's series. If you would like a refresher of everything that happens in these games, check out The Leaderboard's video about Five Nights at Freddy's story.

Who killed Phone Guy?

Phone Guy is a reference for players in the first Five Nights at Freddy's game. Through his voice messages, he gives gameplay hints and general tips to survive the night. But his wisdom isn't enough to save his own life, and we can hear him dying during Night 4. But who killed Phone Guy?

There are several hints in that game that potentially answer this question, but no official answer was ever given. During his final call, we can hear Freddy's music, implying that the animatronic was near. But Freddy isn't the only suspect in Phone Guy's death. Near the end of the phone call, we can hear a moan. Only two animatronics moan when about to kill someone: Bonnie and Chica. We can also hear someone banging at the door, and only Foxy ever knocks.

So who killed Phone Guy? Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, or Foxy? Or was it all four of them?

Who is the victim of The Bite of '87?

The Bite of '87 is an unfortunate event that happened prior to the events of the first game. One of the animatronics bit someone, causing them to lose the frontal lobe of their brain. Following this accident, the animatronics were no longer allowed to freely roam around during the day. They now wander at night, and your job in Five Nights at Freddy's is to watch over them.

Phone Guy briefly mentions this bite in the first game, but he never reveals which animatronic caused this accident and who was bitten. However, there is a popular theory about the identity of this victim.

In Five Nights at Freddy's 2, a prequel to the original game, the main character is Jeremy Fitzgerald. This security guard manages to survive his night shifts and is promoted to a day shift. But before that, he has to monitor the animatronics during a birthday party. While we don't know much about what happened during this birthday party, Freddy Fazbear's Pizza closed shortly after. And Jeremy never came back to complete Night 7, as Fritz Smith took his place.

So what happened to Jeremy? Was he the victim from The Bite of '87? FNAF creator Scott Cawthon has so far not revealed the fate of the security guard.

Who is the main character in Ultimate Custom Night?

Ultimate Custom Night is a kind of purgatory where the main character is tortured every night by a mashup of 50 different animatronics. There are two main theories for the premise of this game.

One states that the main character is William Afton, who is being tortured by the children he killed in the previous games. William Afton is the biggest villain of Five Nights at Freddy's and is also known as the Purple Guy.

The other theory is that Ultimate Custom Night's main character is Michael Afton. Michael, who was known as Mike Schmidt in the first game, is the main character of the original Five Nights at Freddy's, as well as Sister Location and Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator.

According to that theory, Michael is the Older Brother who bullied the boy from Five Nights at Freddy's 4. His younger brother died because Mike forcefully put the boy's head in Freddy's mouth, who crushed him to death. The boy is now supposedly torturing his brother in the afterlife for killing him.

We may never get the answers to these questions. Five Nights at Freddy's is now a staple of horror games, partly because of the mystery surrounding its characters and setting.
