In week 16, former Miami Dolphin quarterback Ryan Tannehill will host his former team as the signal-caller for the Tennessee Titans looking to slam the door shut on Miami's playoff hopes for 2021.
Dolphins to Face Tannehill in First Matchup Since Trade
This will be Tannehill's first matchup against his former team since having been traded to the Titans in 2019, along with a sixth-round draft pick in exchange for a seventh and a fourth-round pick.
Tannehill is in the ninth year of his career, and this third year with Tennessee after spending the greater part of his NFL tenure with the Dolphins.
Tannehill played in 88 games for Miami, finishing with a record of 42-46. He also threw for 20,434 yards, 123 touchdowns and 75 interceptions as a Dolphin, giving him the third-most passing yards in Dolphins' history.
Tannehill Has Stepped Up Game Since Joining Tennessee's Scheme
Since having been traded to Tennessee, it's fair to say that Tannehill has taken the next step in his game.
His first season as a Titan in 2019 happened to be his very first selection to the Pro Bowl, as well as his highest rating as a quarterback, 117.5. He also registered his career-low in interceptions, and the very next season posted a career-high in touchdowns, 33.
Despite his turnaround rate as a Titan, Tannehill's career-high in yardage did eclipse as a Dolphin in 2015 with 4,208.
However, that doesn't mean he has failed to produce yardage as a Titan.
Two games shy of his third complete season in Tennessee, Tannehill has already passed for 9,888 yards, 70 TDs, 27 INTs and increased his completion percentage from 62.8-percent to 67.1-percent, which is on pace to destroy almost all his total numbers as a Dolphin in the same amount of time.
Flores Focused on Dolphins, Not Too Worried About Tannehill
"Well, 2019 is not really something that is on my mind right now. Like I just said, Ryan Tannehill is a very good player. He's on the Tennessee Titans, who we are seeing this week. This is a major challenge for us," Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said. "Really, I'm kind of focused on the guys that are on our team. This is going to be a big challenge so those conversations from 2019 are kind of really far from my mind right now."
He continued, "'Vrabes' (Titans head coach Mike Vrabel) and his staff and his team, this is a tough, physical group really on all three sides and Ryan is a part of that. I think his demeanor, his temperament, the way he goes about things, his toughness, I think that shows on their offense. I think that permeates throughout their team. He's shown leadership and this is going to be a tough challenge for us."
With almost a complete franchise makeover since having been traded by his former team, we'll see who has made the best of the last three years and who can come away with the victory between Tannehill and the Dolphins.
