Singaporean teacher Leroy Lam and publisher CS Comics will be launching a World War 2-era romance graphic novella called Hero, which centres on the week of 15th February 1942 involving the battle for Singapore.

The project launched on Kickstarter and has amassed 200% of its goal within a week of its backer release, raising over S$2,000. In addition, the comic will feature a variant cover from Malaysian artist Zehe to commemorate Singapore's status as a Malayan state during World War 2. Check it out below:

Apart from that cover, there will be 7 other variants illustrated by Collin Yap, Haider Amir, Kang Jing & Alan Bay, Tasha Leah Santiago, Zehe Abdul Rahman, and Brennan Lam.

Here's a quote from Leroy Lam, who is the author of the novella:

"Singapore's history and Total Defence ideology are recurrent matters that hold a prominent significance in our everyday lives. Similarly, comics have maintained a strong purpose in telling visual stories in dynamic and engaging ways. Simultaneously employing the imagination of readers similar to books, while providing imagery much like film or television comics allow for the best of both story-telling platforms to come together."

The comic adaptation will be written by CS Comics' Ryan Mennen, pencilled James Pereria, inker Azri Djokoloro, and colourist Ada Chan. Anyone who is interested in contributing can get the comic at three different pledge tiers: tiers: S$8 for a digital copy (included with all physical copies), S$18 for a physical copy, and $188 for a copy of each of the nine cover editions with a custom cover sketch.
