Live the Nightmare: Over 40 immersive cut-scenes and hours of in-game speech. Shadow Man: Remastered is a complete overhaul of the classic game with restored, previously cut content!
Gameplay
Originally released in 1999 Shadowman was a title I remember enjoying on my Dreamcast for many hours, so when the chance came up to revisit it being remastered having a full overhaul including restored and previously un-released content, HD textures added giving a modern look to a gaming classic.
New weapons have been added to the game along with new enemies adding more depth to the gameplay without losing the feel of the original game with alot of the original features still in place.
The overall feel of the game feels smooth and reacts well to the controls, this enables the player to get into the game quicker and boosts the enjoyment overall.
This remaster is definitely one for the more nostalgic gamers as although the game does have a lot of polished features it still does look and feel slightly dated, the movement feels smoother and the gameplay worlds are definitely alot more detailed but parts still look dated, for example the character features are still a bit blocky looking.
This game I would say would be more for the nostalgia lovers out there who play games more for the gameplay/story, the graphics kind of still feel dated but the game's saving grace is the gameplay, it takes you right back to the consoles of yesteryear.
The game itself brings more to the original title than I first thought a remaster would, the extra unseen parts of gameplay are especially good they certainly add more to the overall game.
It's important to look at Shadowman Remastered for what it is, a remaster of a classic title, if you look at it that way and take the nostalgic value from it then you'll probably get more from the game, if however you are looking at it with a modern perspective and comparing to modern titles then you'll probably find this a bit too dated for you, I'm part of the former I certainly enjoyed getting to play the game again, I thought the updates worked well in making the gane run smoother but still kept the original feel of the game.
Graphics and Sound
The graphics of the game have been given somewhat of a polish and it does show in some aspects however the characters do look and act quite dated which can be annoying. The game worlds you play through definitely look good and you can tell the improvements made making the game feel more immersive.
The soundtrack is pretty good and in keeping with the game's theme, the voice acting is OK again feels slightly dated and maybe robotic at times but in the whole OK.
Summary
To summarise my thoughts of Shadowman Remastered, a good game to pick up especially if you enjoyed it the first time around, definitely one for the nostalgia fans out there.
Verdict-Out of 5
