A Lakewood man found guilty of second-degree murder in November will spend 48 years in prison.

A Weld County judge sentenced Kenneth Hoschouer, 40, to the max amount of years in the Colorado Department of Corrections during a sentencing hearing this past Wednesday.

A jury convicted Hoschouer for murdering 48-year-old Christopher Grau on July 6, 2019.

Firestone police found Grau lying on the ground unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head outside his motorhome on Weld County Road 28. There were 13 shell casings near his body, according to a past news release from the Weld County District Attorney's Office.

Further investigation revealed, Hoschouer, his wife, Grau and Grau's girlfriend, who was also Hoschouer's sister, were all at Hoschouer's home in Lakewood the day before.

Hoschouer was drinking heavily, became angry and started fighting with his wife when he figured out his teenage daughter was dating a 22-year-old man. Grau tried to intervene and de-escalate the argument by getting Hoschouer out of his home.

As an attempt to calm Hoschouer down, Grau drove him to his motorhome in Firestone. Hoschouer then shot and killed Grau.

An HVAC service company assisted police in finding the murder weapon, which was hidden in a vent in Hoschouer's home. He was arrested in September 2019.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wrenn and Deputy District Attorney Ashley McCuaig prosecuted this case.
