Jose Mourinho wants to add a third Englishman to Roma's squad with a loan move for Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The former Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham boss already has England internationals Chris Smalling and Tammy Abraham with him in Italy.

Maitland-Niles has made just 11 appearances this season

And, according to The Athletic, the Serie A side have submitted a bid to sign the versatile youngster on loan with an option to buy in the summer.

The report adds that Roma would prefer to buy Maitland-Niles in the January transfer window but are not in a financial position to do so.

They are planning on selling the likes of Pau Lopez, Justin Kluivert and Cengiz Under to fund a move for the 24-year-old.

If Maitland-Niles was to join Roma, he'd become the third Englishman to join their ranks with former Chelsea star Tammy Abraham and ex-Manchester United defender Chris Smalling on their books.

Everton are also said to be interested in Maitland-Niles, however, having made an approach to sign him in the summer too.

Maitland-Niles was said keen to be keen on a move to the Toffees then, as he made it clear to Arsenal that he wanted to get regular game time.

But the Gunners blocked the move and the England international has had limited opportunities in the first team this season.

In a bid to force through a move last year, he took to social media to voice his displeasure at Mikel Arteta's handling of the situation.

"All I wanna do is go where I'm wanted and where I'm gonna play," Maitland-Niles' Instagram story read on Monday.

It seems as though nothing has changed and Maitland-Niles, again, is looking to leave the club.
