Building an army is the foundation for all gameplay in Lord of the Rings: Rise to War. Having a strong army can fuel a player's economy, Ring level, and ability to recruit other Commanders. Raising troops is one half of the equation, but effectively developing and upgrading an army in Lord of the Rings: Rise to War is the other half. In this guide we'll show you how you can upgrade your army in Lord of the Rings: Rise to War.
Buildings
Each player in LOTR: Rise to War has a Settlement that they can upgrade to further develop their economy, troop conscription, and army upgrades. Players can access different tiers of the same troop type by upgrading their respective buildings. For example, upgrading a Scout Lair can take a Tier 1 Scout and upgrade it to a Tier 3 Raider, which has higher stats and more abilities. Generally the higher tier level, the more valuable the unit type. If you have the disposable resources and few enemies to confront, focus on developing the buildings within your Settlement to help upgrade your army.
Unit abilities
Each unit, regardless of tier, has abilities they can tap into during battle. Some are active abilities, and others are passive throughout an entire battle. You can upgrade these abilities by visiting the Barracks in your settlement and clicking on the individual unit you'd like to upgrade for your army. Money is valuable, so make sure you're investing in units you plan on using since each level calls for an increase in money spent.
Commanders
Commanders use abilities and items that influence the stats of the army they command in LOTR: Rise to War. Make sure to read the details to determine whether or not it affects all allies or certain types of units (Uruk-hai, Elves, Men, Orcs, etc). If the item or ability upgrades are unit-specific, make sure to take full advantage of these bonuses by outfitting the Commander with the proper units.
