Aims Community College and Colorado State University both announced the schools will open late Thursday morning (Jan. 20) for in-person learning and work because of an overnight weather forecast of cold temperatures and wet roads.

Both schools will open for on-campus events at 10 a.m. Thursday, according information from the colleges. The National Weather Service overnight forecast — Wednesday to Thursday — calls for patchy fog, cloudy and temperatures around 12 degrees in the Greeley and Fort Collins areas.

The fog is expected to continue before 9 a.m. Thursday before turning sunny with highs in the low 30s in both cities.

The National Weather Service in Boulder said travel impacts were expected to continue from the freezing drizzle Wednesday through the Interstate 25 urban corridor, including in Weld County.

CSU in Fort Collins sent an email to students, faculty and staff on Wednesday evening announcing the late start that applies to all Larimer County campuses. All in-person learning and work resumes at 10 a.m. Thursday while in-person, hybrid and remote classes, labs, events, work activities and meetings will be cancelled if scheduled before 10 a.m.

Aims announced the late opening for all four campuses — Greeley, Fort Lupton, Loveland and Windsor — on the college website. The alert said the college will move to remote learning and work until 10 a.m. All in-person learning and work on campus resume at 10 a.m.

CSU said the late start was based on weather forecasts for mid-morning Thursday. The university said facility crews will work overnight and early Thursday to sand roads, sidewalks and parking lots. The late start will provide the CSU time to address conditions on campuses, according to the email.
