FC Goa has confirmed the appointment of Derrick Pereira as the club's new official head coach. He also became the Indian manager currently in the league. Khalid Jamil is the other manager who's in charge of North East United FC.

Pereira is currently with the club as the Technical Director and had taken the charge of FC Goa along with Clifford Miranda and Roma Cunillera during the fag end of the 2019-20 season post Sergio Lobera departure.

During Derrick Pereira's tenure with the gaurs, the team finished top of the Indian Super League table at the end of the 2018-19 season clearing the way for FC Goa for group stages ahead of the 2021 AFC Champions League.

Pereira, during one of his interviews, said

"It is a great honour to become head coach of a club I have been. It is a very proud day for both me and my family. This is a wonderful opportunity, but there is also a lot of work ahead of us and I am eager to get onto the training ground to start working with the players.

"I would like to thank the club management for this opportunity and thank the club's supporters for the incredible welcome they have already given me. I am very excited to begin our journey together,"

He's extremely experienced in managing a lot of clubs in India. He began his coaching career with U-19 of Salgaocar before he went to Vasco where he stayed for 5 seasons.

In 2005 he joined Mahindra United which was a fruitful association. The club under his tenure lifted the National league once, Fed Cup once and IFA Shield twice during his spell of four years. He then also took the charge of Pune FC, Salgaocar, DSK Shivajians and Churchill Brothers.

Previously, he headed FC Goa's Youth development, the three teams finished as champions. He also headed the India U23 team in 2019.
