Gameplay

I kind of like a good adventure game and there definitely seems to be a good resurgence of the genre lately with titles such as Biomutant being released, the latest to enter the fray is Sci-Fi exploration adventure game The Gunk.

The game tells the story of two space haulers on the look our for valuable energy resources until they come across mysterious looking liquid or Gunk which completely changes their mission as the investigation into this mysterious substance takes them on a journey like no other.

I found playing as Rani captivating and was mesmerised as I explored the alien planet, the game world is vast and so much fun to explore using your Power Glove to clear the gunk and take the planet back to it's former beauty, which you will find is stunning.

Using your base as a stop off where you can warp back to from certain points, you can upgrade your equipment using various materials you find throughout the game, upgrades such as your power glove are vital to take on enemies dotted about or to solve puzzles to get you further on in the game, a very handy upgrade that's for sure.

This game certainly felt long enough to keep me occupied and felt fresh throughout, I didn't get bored as the gameplay seemed to flow through with brilliant story telling. Maybe it would have been better had there been a multiplayer option like co-op but it still does work as a single player title.

Graphics and Sound

I liked the look of The Gunk, the game world was very well put together and looked stunning especially when you clear the gunk and see the lush green land as it once was. The game characters are well thought out and work well with the storyline.

The soundtrack to the game was good adding to the whole vibe of the game, the in game sound effects were good with the voice acting working well in telling the story.

Summary

To summarise my thoughts on The Gunk, I felt it was a good and unique adventure game that felt fresh with a good story throughout. As I said earlier it may have been better with a co-op option however I still enjoyed the overall experience.
