Epic has acknowledged that it is looking into a solution to the stability concerns that caused the game servers to be taken offline.

The Fortnite team announced the bad news on Twitter via the @FortniteStatus account, promising to keep players updated "as soon as additional information becomes available."

Fortnite gamers began suffering login, matchmaking, and other troubles earlier today when attempting to play the battle royale game, and the problems quickly grew severe enough for Epic to intervene and shut down the game while they worked on a solution.

Server outages are usually around the holidays, but it's unclear whether this one was caused by an influx of gamers or something else entirely. "Fortnite game servers are back online and the Winterfest continues!" says @FortniteStatus. Furthermore, it appears that participants will be compensated in some way for their trouble.

The Nintendo Switch eShop had similar troubles on Christmas Day, with players unable to establish Nintendo Accounts, buy games, redeem gift cards, or even browse the online store.

The event, which began on December 16 and will end on January 6, has been in high demand throughout its duration. Epic stated earlier this month that it was having problems sending holiday gifts to players — "Sgt. Winter couldn't keep up with so many guests at once!" the firm tweeted — and that the game was experiencing significant delays.

To appease gamers and ensure them that they would not lose out on the Winterfest goodies, the business said it will provide instructions on how they may make up for missed time next week.
