Emma Raducanu will spend Christmas away from the UK to aid her preparation for the Australian Open.

The Bromley teenager has already begun her training regime under new coach Torben Beltz ahead of the 2022 season.

Raducanu shocked the tennis world by winning the US Open in September and it has been a whirlwind few months for the 19-year-old.

She struggled to keep up that level in the last few tournaments of 2021, but is ready to put in the hard graft as she launches into her first full season on the tour.

She will play Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic in an exhibition match in Abu Dhabi this month, but will not return home to the UK for Christmas.

Raducanu will hope to build on her incredible success in 2021

Instead, she will stay in the Middle East before for another 10 days before flying to Melbourne on December 27.

"I knew that playing tennis you'll spend birthdays, you'll spend Christmas and New Year not at home and I feel like for me it doesn't matter," Raducanu said after beating Elena-Gabriela Ruse in an exhibition match at the Royal Albert Hall.

"I'm there to train, I'm there to get better and then I fly to Australia. What's going to be best for me is staying in the Middle East rather than flying seven hours back and forth.

"So I feel like it's not a sacrifice and hopefully my Mum or Dad can come out maybe, and one of my best friends lives in Dubai so I can just see her."
