PlayStation owners have been anticipating Spider-appearance Man's in Marvel's Avengers since the game's release, but it appears that the DLC may fall short of expectations. According to an IGN preview, unlike past DLC for Hawkeye and Black Panther, the next Spider-Man "With Great Power" event would not feature any typical story objectives.

Instead, you can expect a series of tasks, as well as audio logs and static comic-book-style "cutscenes" to help you progress through the tale. So what's the deal with Crystal Dynamics skimping on the Spider-Man story? according to Avengers director Philippe Therien, they didn't want to put too much effort into something that would only be available on one platform, pure and simple...

We want to spend our efforts on content that everyone can enjoy, so we chose to spend a lot of our energy on the Klaw raid that's coming up at the same time. That's a simple decision for us. Spider-Man can play all the content, but then we release a piece of content that's good on all platforms. That was a decision that's been that way since the beginning.

I suppose you get bonus points for honesty, but it's still a letdown. Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics should not have given console-exclusive content in the first place if they didn't want to put any work into it. At the very least, they should have been forthright from the start, given that this was their position from the start.

In the meantime, IGN has posted the first gameplay video of Spider-Man in Marvel's Avengers, and he appears to be in good shape. Maybe I'd be more enthusiastic if the Insomniac Spider-Man games didn't exist, but they do, and Avengers Spidey doesn't seem nearly as fluid or badass.
