Women aged 65-74 are the largest bloc of voters in Colorado's off-year election so far, according to the Colorado Secretary of State's office.
That demographic group had cast nearly 113,000 ballots as of Monday afternoon, more than all women between the ages of 18 and 54. Women 75 and over had cast another 78,976 ballots. Men 65-74 were the second-largest voting group, casting 103,131 votes.
Not surprisingly, voters in six Colorado counties have accounted for as many votes as all the rest of the state combined. Jefferson, El Paso, Arapahoe, Douglas, Larimer and Denver counties accounted for 49 percent of the state's total of 755,631 votes cast. Here in northeast Colorado, the six counties in the northeast corner of the state had cast 11,284 cotes so far, or about 1.5 percent of the state total.
Coloradans are deciding two propositions and a constitutional amendment in Tuesday's election. The ballot issues would increase taxes on recreational marijuana for learning enrichment and academic progress programs, and would lower taxes on multi-family properties and lodgings, like hotels and bed-and-breakfasts. The constitutional amendment would require legislative approval before bequests to state agencies, including colleges and universities, could be spent.
