A second swimmer from the University of Northern Colorado will represent their country and the Bears on the world stage in December.
Sophomore Ali Jackson is expected to compete in the short-distance freestyle races at the FINA World Championships, hosted by the United Arab Emirates. She will represent her home country of the Cayman Islands.
"Representing the Cayman Islands on the international stage is a huge honor," Jackson said in a statement. "It's been a while since I've competed on the international level. I'm excited to see what I can do, racing against world-class competition."
Jackson joined the Bears squad two years ago and has two swims in the program's top 10. She ranks No. 7 all time in the 50 free and No. 10 all time in the 100 free.
Additionally, Jackson has been a key member of the Northern Colorado relays. Her leadoff performance in the 400 free relay at the Mid-Season Invitational on Nov. 20 helped the group earn second place at the meet and log the fastest time in the Western Athletic Conference.
Jackson swam at the ISCA Senior Cup in the spring after her freshman season. She recorded a personal best in the 200 free, while finishing in the top 20 for the 50- and 100-meter freestyle races.
"I am unbelievably proud of the hard work that Ali has put into being selected for this honor," UNC coach Lisa Ebeling said. "This is an incredible opportunity and I am excited to see her make the most of it.
"I'm also absolutely thrilled that I will get to share in her experience and watch her compete on the international stage," Ebeling continued.
Jackson will be joined by Ebeling and senior teammate Madelyn Moore, who will represent Bermuda. Ebeling was selected to coach the Bermuda team, as well, and will see both of her UNC students compete in an international event.
UNC is 9-1 in dual competitions, falling only to Colorado State in the Intermountain Shootout to start the season. The team boasts big wins over New Mexico State, Idaho and Wyoming.
Northern Colorado is on its mid-year break and will return to the pool after the new year. Fans can watch the Bears take on CSU for the second time this season in the Bears' only remaining home meet on Jan. 29.
Until then, the FINA World Swimming Championships are scheduled for Dec. 16 through Dec. 21. Additional details about the event can be found at fina.org.
