On November 4th, Riot made several of the company's hit games available to download on the Epic Games Store. When you visit EGS, you can now play and download hit titles like League of Legends, VALORANT, Teamfight Tactics, and Legends of Runterra.
Once users download these titles from the Epic Games Store, Riot Client will be installed on that person's computer. This new unified launcher from Riot Games allows users to install and play each game individually.
"Riot Games is one of the world's best developers and creators of groundbreaking entertainment franchises," said Steve Allison, Vice President and General Manager of the Epic Games Store. "We're excited they've chosen to partner with us to bring their titles to millions of new players through the Epic Games Store."
This deal also saw Riot and Epic join forces to launch a Fortnite skin based on the League of Legends character Jinx. This item was made available on the Epic Games Store the same day the announcement was made.
Either this is a nothing announcement, or it completely changes the narrative around the Epic Games Store. I always hated that League and VALORANT always kind of required their own launchers. However, I would argue that their launchers were never clunky or difficult to use. I don't know if this is going to bring new people to the table for either company.
