Giovanni van Bronckhorst says any Rangers players lacking hunger will have a 'touch manager' to answer to.

The Dutchman replaced Steven Gerrard at the helm and watched from the stands as Gers crashed out of the Scottish League Cup in their first match since the change in manager.

If Van Bronckhorst wasn't aware of the size of the job before, he certainly is now

Their 3-1 defeat to Hibernian was a shock but even more shocking were comments made by Rangers defender Connor Goldson as he said his teammates have 'lost a bit of hunger'.

That won't fly under Van Bronckhorst, who said at his official unveiling: "I expect that everyone is on board with me. It's my duty to prepare players for games. I will prepare them in their attitude, their hunger, whatever.

"For me as a coach and a player, I think the hunger has to come from within yourself. It starts with that. That would make it a lot easier as a coach.

"Being involved in football all my life, I know what needs to be done and what you have to do to be successful. That message I got across as a coach from when I started. I will keep doing that.

"If something or some player thinks otherwise, they will have a tough manager."

Goldson's comments will worry Rangers fans and their new manager

Gerrard's departure disappointed many Rangers fans and it's raised questions about the futures of key players including Goldson, Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Glen Kamara and Nathan Patterson.

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson, who sat alongside Van Bronckhorst at the press conference in Ibrox on Monday, admitted 'player trading' is part of the plans but the club is under no pressure to offload their stars.

Wilson said: "We as a club have been clear - there is no mandate that we have to sell players.

"We have been really clear in our communications that we see player trading as something that has to be normal for this club, as it is for nearly every club in world football.

Gerrard's move to Aston Villa has led to fears Rangers players could be on their way out of Ibrox too

"We haven't been strong on that (selling players) in the past. That's clear to see. But our investors have continued to back this club all the time.

"We have rejected some significant offers for players in the last two windows. We will do so again unless it's the right offers for the right players at the right time."

Wilson also insisted that any revenue raised from player sales will be reinvested in Van Bronckhorst's squad.

He added: "If we accept any offers then we will be investing back into the squad to keep taking us forward.

"When I speak to Douglas Park and John Bennett, we always say that the guys have had to invest a lot in this club to get it back to the club we know it has to be.

"We are on a really good level today, but we have been clear about what our strategy is and what it needs to be going forward. But there is no requirement on the manager to have to sell anyone.

"Gio will take a view on the squad first and foremost. We will then have a chat about how that looks.

"If Gio wants to do anything, we'll take a view on that and have a look at it. There's nothing set in stone right here, right now. But we are absolutely aware that we always want to improve this squad in any way we possibly can.

"If Gio thinks there's something we've got to do, then we'll look at it."
