SC East Bengal were defeated by Odisha FC 6-4 in the ISL, in the craziest game of the season yet. Here are the key talking points from the game:
Always a goalfest between these two
In their final games of the previous season, Odisha FC defeated East Bengal by a scoreline of 6-5. This time around, they have put six past the Red and Gold club, but have only been answered by 4.
In these two games alone, the two clubs have 21 goals between them. And by the looks of things, it could be a ritual to see these two score ten goals on average every time they meet.
The East Bengal defense is missing
With Arindam Bhattacharya out injured, Suvam Sen was deployed between the posts. The 32-year-old was beaten six times as Odisha picked up all three points. But more importantly, the defense was to blame for making it so easy for their opponents.
There seems to be very little composition when it comes to the backline, and a lack of urgency and decision making when attacks come in. East Bengal now have the worst defensive record in the league by quite a margin. And things will not work out for them if they can't fix the defense first.
Contrasting scenarios for both teams
SC East Bengal are still winless from their first three games, while Odisha have won two out of their two games so far. Considering the way they are playing, they are emerging as strong competitors for the title.
East Bengal, on the other hand, seem to be in for a mediocre season with a mid-table finish in the best case scenario.
