Manchester United are considering an approach for Ralf Rangnick if they can't prise Mauricio Pochettino away from Paris Saint-Germain during the season.

The search for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under way and talkSPORT understands former Tottenham boss Pochettino is the no.1 choice.

Pochettino is reportedly unhappy at Paris Saint-Germain

However, the Argentine has a contract at PSG, meaning Man United may struggle to get him in before the summer.

And talkSPORT understands the Red Devils will go for German Rangnick if that indeed proves to be the case.

Reporting from the Northwest Football Awards, talkSPORT's Alex Crook said: "The name on most people's lips is still Mauricio Pochettino - we know he's very much the man Man United have set their sights on.

"But in terms of an interim, interim manager, if they can't get Pochettino out of Paris this side of the summer then maybe Ralf Rangnick could be a live contender, that's what I've been hearing here."

Rangnick is a very experienced manager, most recently taking charge of RB Leipzig in 2018

Michael Carrick has taken the reins while the club search for a new manager to take them to the end of the season, and his first match in charge is a crucial Champions League clash at Villarreal on Tuesday evening, live and exclusively on talkSPORT 2.

After that, Man United have a tough trip to Premier League leaders Chelsea but their fixture list in December, dubbed 'easy' by talkSPORT's Adrian Durham, looks on the Red Devils more kindly on paper.

There are 21 points to be had in the Premier League and a win over Young Boys should be enough to seal qualification for the last-16 regardless of what happens at Villarreal.

December is a great opportunity for whoever's in charge of Man United to get the season back on track.
