The Lone Star gymnastics team has wrapped up a successful 2021 season with two gymnasts qualifying for the state competition.
The team had three competitors at the regional meet, which was held Oct. 29 at Mountain Range High School in Westminster. Alivia Weathers, Lydia Boxberger, and Aylin Aguirre competed for the Longhorns.
Weathers placed second in vault with a score of 9.25, third in balance beam with an 8.85, fourth in floor exercise with 9.15 and seventh in uneven bars with 8.325. She finished third all-around with a score of 35.575.
Boxberger's score of 8.55 on vault was good for 14th place; she placed 12th on bars with 7.925, 27th on beam with 6.9, 25th on floor with 7.65. Her all-around score of 31.025 was good for 16th place.
Aguirre finished 29th on vault with a score of 7.55, 29th on beam with 6.85 and 31st on floor with a 7.15.
Weathers and Boxberger participated in the 4A state meet on Nov. 5-6 at Thornton High School. The two faced a high level of competition, with the 36.9 all-around score that won in 2020 only good enough to come in fourth place this year.
Weathers set personal bests on day one of the competition in vault and bars – 9.45 and 8.35 respectively -- and tied her best all-around score of 35.675. She did not medal, but finished her career as a four-year state qualifier and event finalist each year.
Boxberger set a personal best in vault with an 8.8.
