FORT COLLINS –– Though the Colorado State football team didn't produce much to write home about collectively this season, several individual players shut the door on 2021 with prestigious praise to their names.
On Tuesday afternoon, senior tight end Trey McBride and graduate defensive end Scott Patchan obtained first-team all-Mountain West honors from the conference.
Graduate punter Ryan Stonehouse became an all-MW second-team member as junior kicker Cayden Camper received an all-conference honorable mention as well.
After snatching first-team accolades in 2019 and second-team status in 2020, McBride paved the way for the Rams' receiving game this year upon hoarding a team-most 90 receptions for 1,121 yards –– both representing single-season highs for the Fort Morgan native.
McBride's 2021 reception total also led all Mountain West players while his yardage ranked first behind only Utah State wideout Deven Thompkins. The seemingly NFL-bound collegiate superstar's 164 career grabs and 2,100 receiving yards constitute program-mosts from a tight end.
Patchan, who immediately sparked CSU's defensive line when transferring from Miami before the 2020 season, departs Fort Collins boasting two all-MW first-team trophies in as many seasons. The gruesome edge rusher's squad-leading 18.5 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks ranked second and first in the MW this season, respectively.
Meanwhile, Stonehouse became just the sixth-ever player to earn a quartet of first or second-team all-MW glory –– including three consecutive first-team awards before Tuesday's announcement.
In 2021, the field-flipping virtuoso netted the Mountain West's second-best punt average (50.91 yards) –– a single-campaign best for the specialist. Stonehouse also pinned 27-of-81 boots inside the opposing 20 and launched 30 kicks of at least 50 yards. The California native's career net punt average of 47.8 yards sits atop CSU's all-time leaderboard.
