Thomas Tuchel is hoping to keep his four senior defenders who are out-of-contract next summer.

Chelsea could look very bare in defence next season with Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva's deals all expiring at the end of June 2022.

Tuchel will have a defensive crisis if all these players leave

Goal have reported that Tuchel wants to retain all four of the stars and award them new deals.

The west London side are confident Azpilicueta and Silva will extend their but Christensen and Rudiger's situations are more complex.

Christensen, 25, has become an integral player in Chelsea's recent success since his two-year loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Blues have failed to strike a deal with the Danish defender but discussions have shifted quickly in order to keep their academy product at the club.

Christensen has been with Chelsea since 2012

In contrast, Rudiger's contract discussions have stalled and would be allowed to make pre-contract agreements with other clubs in January.

He has recently been linked with a move to Bayern Munich and Real Madrid which could bring an end to his five-year stint with Chelsea.

The big worry will be Real Madrid linked Rudiger, who's been one of Chelsea's star players this season

A Rudiger departure could see Tuchel sign a new defender with Chelsea previously linked with Sevilla star Jules Kounde.
