1047 Games recently announced it will be launching an esports tournament series based around the company's hit game Splitgate. The Splitgate Esports Pro Series, which will be made up of weekly tournaments, is expected to feature at least $100,000 in cash prizes.
The Splitgate Esports Pro Series season officially kicked off on October 17th. $5,000 open qualifier tournaments will be held weekly between the 17th and November 21st, with a last chance qualifying round scheduled for December 5th. The SPS Grand Final, which features a $60,000 prize, is scheduled for December 12th at 3:00 PM EST.
1047 Games just raised $100 million, so $100,000 feels a little cheap. Maybe $2 million next time? This is clearly a measured approach by 1047 Games. They're testing to see if there is a space for a competitive Splitgate scene. VALORANT did the same thing because they didn't throw a lot of money at esports tournaments right away, so maybe game publishers have learned. I hope this is a success.
