The following spills were reported to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in the past two weeks.

Information is based on Form 19, which operators must fill out detailing the leakage/spill events. Any spill release that may impact waters of the state must be reported as soon as practical. Spills and leaks typically are found during routine maintenance on existing wells, though some actual "spills" do occur among the 24,000-plus wells in the county.

» HIGHPOINT OPERATING CORPORATION reported Oct. 11 a recent pipeline spill about 3 miles west of Weld County roads 44 1/2 and 87, about 3 miles northwest of Dearfield. An unknown amount of produced water spilled. A compromised fitting on a produced water dumpline spilled to the ground and subsurface. Impacted soil will be removed, soil samples will be collected, and the line will be pressure tested before returning to service. The cause is under investigation.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Oct. 11 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 70 and 25, about a mile southeast of Severance. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated the release at a decommissioned tank battery. One soil sample's concentration of 1-methylnaphthalene exceeded COGCC standards.

» BONANZA CREEK ENERGY OPERATING COMPANY LLC reported Oct. 11 a recent flowline system spill near Weld 52 and 89, about 5 miles northwest of Orchard. An unknown amount of produced water spilled. A compromised produced water discharge line spilled to the ground and subsurface. The line will be repaired and pressure tested before being returned to service. Impacted soil will be taken to an approved disposal facility. Soil samples will be collected.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Oct. 8 a historical well spill near Weld 36 and 53, about 8 miles south of Kersey. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated the release at a decommissioned wellhead. One soil sample's concentration of 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene exceeded COGCC standards.

» BONANZA CREEK ENERGY OPERATING COMPANY LLC reported Oct. 7 a recent tank battery spill about a mile north of Cottonwood Lane and Weld 69, about 6 miles east of Kersey. About 10 barrels of oil spilled. A compromised fire tube on the separator caused the release in lined secondary containment. The unit was shut in, and the fire tube is scheduled to be replaced.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported Oct. 6 a historical flowline system spill near Weld 76 and Coalbank Road, about 3 miles northwest of Eaton. An unknown amount of oil and produced water spilled. The operator found the release while abandoning a flowline. Groundwater was encountered.

» WHITING OIL & GAS CORPORATION reported Oct. 6 a recent well site spill about a mile southwest of Weld 120 and 133, about 14 miles northeast of Keota. Less than 1 barrel of oil spilled. Erosion is believed to have created a pinhole in a section of piping. The well was isolated, and a crew was dispatched for cleanup.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Oct. 6 a recent well spill near Weld 46 and 59, about 4 miles southeast of Kersey. Less than a barrel each of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Initial evidence points to damage possibly caused by a cow rubbing up against or stepping on the wellhead. The well was shut in. The sprayed area is about 75 feet by 35 feet.

» HIGHPOINT OPERATING CORPORATION reported Oct. 5 a recent flowline system spill near Colo. 52 and Weld 51, about 2 miles east of Hudson. Between 1 and 5 barrels of produced water spilled. Produced water dumpline and produced fluids were seen rising to the surface around the separator during semi-annual pressure testing. The line was immediately isolated and blown down. Vac trucks exposed the compromised line, which will be pressure tested before returning to service. Impacted soil will be removed, and soil samples will be collected.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported Oct. 4 a historical well spill near Weld 46 and 43, about 2.5 miles southeast of LaSalle. An unknown amount of oil and produced water spilled. The operator found the release at the wellhead.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported Oct. 1 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 46 and 43, about 2.5 miles southeast of LaSalle. An unknown amount of produced water spilled. The release was found beneath the water vault.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported Sept. 30 a historical well spill near Weld 46.5 and 43, about 2 miles southeast of LaSalle. An unknown amount of oil, produced water and an unknown release material spilled. The operator found the release of unknown origin near the wellhead during inorganic delineation. An investigation is ongoing.
