A makeshift Tottenham Hotspur side were beaten 1-0 by SBV Vitesse in their third Europa League Conference group game after turning in an insipid performance.
Maximilian Vittek struck a superb left-footed volley from outside the box to break the deadlock 12 minutes from time and the hosts were never really troubled.
Tottenham, who had earlier hit the crossbar through Bryan Gil, looked to be holding on for a point until Maximilian Wittek drilled in a low volley from the edge of the area from Eli Dasa's cross
Nuno Espirito Santo made 11 changes from the side which collected all three points at Newcastle, but there was never much hope of repeating the feat here.
Led by Harry Winks, Spurs lacked cohesion and failed to quell the noise of the vociferous home crowd, who only continued to grow in confidence.
Bryan Gil may well have hit the cross bar in the second half, but the London side were largely outplayed by the Dutch minnows and Matt Holland signalled out Dele Alli for particular criticism.
"I see it as an opportunity missed to show the manager you should be on the team," Holland said.
The England international came under scrutiny for his performance in Holland
"Dele Alli hasn't done enough to impact the game. He hasn't shown enough desire."
Defeat leaves the 2019 Champions League finalists in third place of Group G of the Conference League after defeat at the Gelredome.
