With little over ten minutes to go, Mbappe put France ahead with a delightful goal after a sublime through ball from Theo Hernandez.
The PSG hitman, who looks set to leave his club this summer for free, produced a couple tricky stepovers before firing past Unai Simon.
He made amends for his penalty miss against Switzerland at Euro 2020 which knocked the reigning World Cup champions out of the tournament at the round of 16 stage.
And despite Spain's best efforts to find a late equaliser, France's back line ultimately saw off the pressure to get the victory over the line.
