Police are investigating a homicide after a body was found in an early morning house fire this weekend in Greeley.
At 5:43 a.m. Sunday, the Greeley police and fire personnel responded to a single home on fire in the 2400 block of 15th Avenue Court.
Officers arrived on the scene to find the home fully engulfed in flames, according to a news release from the department. Shortly after arrival, fire personnel extinguished the fire. The Greeley Fire Department estimated the damage at about $300,000.
A man's body was discovered in the home, resulting in Greeley police detectives being called to the scene. Along with detectives, an arson investigator, building inspector and the Weld County Coroner also responded to the incident.
After an autopsy, the coroner ruled the death a homicide following an autopsy. The coroner's office will release the identity of the man at a later time, pending next-of-kin notifications.
Officers have no reason to believe there is an ongoing danger to anyone else in the community, according to the release.
