Electronic Arts (EA) plans to integrate ShotLink player data into PGA Tour 2022 which is set to be released next spring. Originally introduced on the PGA Tour in 2001, ShotLink uses laser rangefinders and TrackMan radars to capture more than twenty data points on each shot, such as distance, trajectory, etc. EA's designers believe that using this data to dictate golfers' in-game ratings will make the game feel more realistic.

"EA SPORTS PGA TOUR is the first-ever golf video game to incorporate ShotLink data, which will provide extensive amounts of data that will be integrated into the game's development, resulting in accurate player ratings and skills and magnified true-to-life in-game events," EA said via press release. "TrackMan measurement solution's data is also being incorporated into the game to add an additional layer of authenticity by allowing EA's game designers to perfect gameplay and numerous stats such as club tuning."

Next year's video game will also add all three FedEx Cup events as playable courses.

EA's integration of ShotLink data is similar to EA's addition of the NFL's Next Gen Stats player-tracking data to its Madden video game series.
