The following spills were reported to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in the past two weeks.

Information is based on Form 19, which operators must fill out detailing the leakage/spill events. Any spill release that may impact waters of the state must be reported as soon as practical. Spills and leaks typically are found during routine maintenance on existing wells, though some actual "spills" do occur among the 24,000-plus wells in the county.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported Aug. 6 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 30 and 31, about 1 mile east of Platteville. An unknown amount of produced water spilled. No groundwater was present. Clean-up and delineation are underway.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported Aug. 6 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 66 and 59, about 6 miles northeast of Kersey. An unknown amount of produced water spilled. Impacts were found while removing a separator during plugging and abandonment. Groundwater was not present. Clean-up and delineation are underway.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported Aug. 5 another historical tank battery spill near Weld 66 and 59, about 6 miles northeast of Kersey. An unknown amount of produced water spilled. Impacts were found while removing a water vault. Groundwater was not present. Clean-up and delineation are underway.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported Aug. 5 a historical well site spill near Weld 36 and 23, southeast of Milliken. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found during plugging and abandonment. Assessment is ongoing.

» HIGHPOINT OPERATING CORPORATION reported Aug. 5 a recent tank battery spill near Weld 126 and 67, about 9 miles northwest of Grover. About 12 barrels of produced water spilled. A compromised valve on the loadout line resulted in the spill inside an earthen containment. Impacted soil will be taken to an approved disposal facility, and soil samples will be submitted for analysis.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported Aug. 5 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 66 and 59, about 8 miles northeast of Greeley. An unknown amount of produced water spilled. The spill was found near water vaults during plugging and abandonment. Clean-up and delineation are ongoing.

» WHITING OIL & GAS CORPORATION reported Aug. 4 a recent tank battery spill about 2 miles northeast of Weld 110 and 127, about 12 miles north of Raymer. Less than a barrel of oil spilled. A compressor blowdown malfunction caused the spill, with the majority of fluid remaining on location as a mist of oil impacted a 2,500-square-foot area southeast of the pad.

» EXTRACTION OIL & GAS INC reported Aug. 4 a historical well site spill near Weld 4 and 5, in Erie. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Legacy impacts were found, and collected samples were submitted for analysis.

» EXTRACTION OIL & GAS INC reported Aug. 4 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 5 and 7, southeast of Erie. An unknown amount of produced water spilled. Legacy impacts were found after removal of a partially buried produced water vessel. Samples were collected and submitted for analysis.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported Aug. 4 a historical tank battery spill less than a mile east of Beebe Draw Farms Parkway and Weld 41 1/2, about 6 miles southeast of Gilcrest. An unknown amount of oil and produced water spilled. The drain line on the back of the oil tank developed a cracked weld, spilling 3 gallons of water and oil mixture to the ground surface. During excavation of impacts, a historical release was found beneath the oil tank. Excavation is ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported July 19 a recent well release near Weld 16 1/2 and 3 1/4, in Frederick. An unknown amount of methane was released. During plugging and abandonment at the wellheads, 10 shallow soil vapor points were installed. A methane release was detected. Investigation into the source and assessment are ongoing.
