Team GB race walker Tom Bosworth has criticised the conditions athletes are facing in Sapporo, the city hosting the Olympics distance races.

The marathon and 50km race walk are being held there, 800km north of Tokyo, due to fears over the heat.

Bosworth complained on Twitter about the conditions in Sapporo and also the quality of the food being served up to athletes.

In a now deleted tweet, he wrote: "Hey IOC Media - you know the millions of money bag (sic) you make off the Olympics?

"Any chance in the week of our race we could get some food? Like meals?

"Not cold slop, steamed onions or partly cooked pasta? This is the 'pinnacle of sport'.

"Sapporo feels like a prison. Welcome to the sweaty school dining hall that a lifetime of hard work gets you."

Bosworth complained about the food on social media

He followed this up with a post that read: "Re the food here in Sapporo.

"Food is poor. Food is cold. And seems in short supply.

"Athletes have battled to get to these games and are abiding by all rules in place

"I'm very grateful they've have gone ahead and ive had a +ve experience until now and that's why I called it out."

Bosworth will compete in the 50km race walk on Friday.
