"Nissan prides itself on delivering Intelligent Mobility solutions in every vehicle, and nowhere is that more obvious than with this Nissan-exclusive solution.
"While a traditional hybrid adds battery power to an internal-combustion engine, e-POWER delivers an EV-like driving experience, including exhilarating acceleration and near-silent operation, all while drastically reducing your fuel use and emissions.
"We are looking forward to our customers experiencing this future-facing technology for themselves."
Nissan e-POWER first appeared in the Japan-only Nissan "Note" in November 2016, with the model going on to claim the best-selling car in Japan title in 2018. Soon after, Nissan's Kicks SUV and Serena minivan followed, with e-POWER sales surpassing 500,000 units by the end of March 2021.
Sadly, Note, Kicks and Serena will still only be sold in Japan.
Second-generation e-POWER pairs an electric motor, similar to those in other Nissan EV's, with an upgraded three-cylinder, 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, meaning you'll fill a petrol tank to eliminate range anxiety.
Like all EV's, power and torque are instant, but in this case, the petrol engine is used when at its most efficient.
Nissan e-POWER fast facts:
- The e-POWER system allows you to enjoy all the benefits of an EV with the range confidence of an ICE vehicle.
- The e-POWER system uses the electric motor to drive the wheels, and the petrol engine to recharge the battery.
- e-POWER delivers its torque almost instantly, which enhances drive response and results in smooth acceleration. The system operates very quietly, much like a full EV.
- Because e-POWER can engage the engine at its most efficient point, its fuel use is minimised, especially in urban commuting.
- The result is a vehicle that delivers the instant torque and near-silent acceleration of an EV with the range-confidence of a petrol-powered vehicle.
