Dean Henderson is still suffering from the effects of coronavirus and will miss Manchester United's pre-season camp in Scotland, the Premier League club have confirmed.

The 24-year-old reported for training three weeks ago but tested positive for COVID-19 shortly after, ruling him out of pre-season friendlies with Derby County, Queens Park Rangers and Brentford.

Henderson faces a fight to be fully fit for the first game of the season

In a statement, the club wrote: "Dean Henderson will miss Manchester United's Scotland training camp while he continues his recovery from prolonged fatigue after contracting a COVID-19 infection three weeks ago.

"He is expected to be training again soon."

Henderson's situation could see David de Gea start in the season opener against Leeds on August 14.

United have two top goalkeepers in their ranks in Henderson and De Gea

While he is currently sidelined due to COVID, Henderson has fully recovered from the hip injury that forced him to withdraw from Gareth Southgate's England squad at Euro 2020 this summer.

The goalkeeper is battling De Gea to be first choice goalkeeper this season and was expected to assume the no.1 role in the 2021/22 campaign.

The academy graduate started last season as second choice behind the Spaniard, but established himself as no.1 in the league towards the end of the campaign.
