On July 13th, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) released the company's study entitled "2021 Essential Facts About the Video Game Industry". In this report, it was revealed that the number of gamers in the United States increased from 214.4 million to 227 million.
"This year's report is a snapshot of the American video game playing community following a year of social distancing, just as the country was starting to open again," said ESA President Stanley Pierre-Louis. "Today, nearly 227 million Americans play video games. Players across the country embrace the ability of games to inspire, provide stress relief and mental stimulation, or simply bring joy through play."
55% of those surveyed said they played more video games during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Furthermore, 90% of those polled said they will likely continue playing video games even after COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
Roughly 4,000 Americans age 18 and up were surveyed for this study. It is being reported that the average video game player in the United States is 31-years-old.
This is a huge increase. It's crazy to think that almost 3% of US citizens became gamers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, it's interesting that the average gamer is 31-years-old and not 25 or 18, which is the common misconception.
