Soon, voters will be asked to vote for new or incumbent Greeley City Council members and the mayor. I include the mayor because that elected position has one vote on issues, just like council members do.
When you vote, please consider just what this council has done for Greeley in the past two years — the reign of city manager Raymond Lee.
Mr. Lee has had an unfettered ability to grossly expand the city's executive staff. He has added executive level positions in the form of deputy city manager and assistant city manager positions with little or no oversight from the current council nor transparency for Greeley residents.
And consider each executive position created by Mr. Lee likely includes not just the position but also two, three or more support positions. Any businessperson will tell you the greatest cost of a business is employees and benefits.
Just what is the deputy city manager of human capital? When I worked for the city, that was called the HR director. There was no human capital manager to make sure employees were doing their jobs. That was the department head's responsibility.
This Council has allowed this to happen at what cost? How many miles of our roads could have been taken care of with the hundreds of thousands of dollars Mr. Lee has cost the city in executive-level salaries and their support staffs' salaries?
How about mowing the shoulder-high weeds in water retention areas that are now over-run with shoulder high weeds which the City cannot afford to mow?
Elect Council members who will have the chutzpah to say no to Raymond Lee, be more transparent in hiring executive positions and their costs, and be better stewards of the City's finances.
David Adams, Greeley
