Cristiano Ronaldo's legacy tarnishing interview will lead most to consider Lionel Messi the greatest footballer of all time, reckons Tim Sherwood.
The ex-Premier League star also believes the Argentine will be in Qatar 'laughing from afar' at his rival, as they both prepare for this winter's World Cup.
Sherwood thinks Ronaldo has given his rival the upper hand after his explosive TalkTV interview
Ronaldo has caused shockwaves at Manchester United and across football after his tell all chat with Piers Morgan
Just hours after Manchester United snatched a 2-1 victory away at Fulham in their final game before the World Cup break, teasers for an explosive interview with club legend Ronaldo were released.
The centre-forward took aim at the club, manager Erik ten Hag, the Glazer family ownership and former teammates as he sat down with TalkTV host Piers Morgan - sending shockwaves across football.
And former Blackburn captain Sherwood thinks Ronaldo's rival Messi will now be ahead of him when fans now consider who is the greatest of all time, thanks to the Man United star's latest move.
"I don't think what Ronaldo is saying is ground breaking, I really don't," Sherwood told talkSPORT Breakfast.
"I think it's more ground breaking the fact that he's come and said it so publicly and obviously done it on a huge platform. He could've gone Oprah Winfrey or Piers Morgan - he's took the English option.
"I'm astounded that he's come out and done it I really am, I think it tarnishes his legacy.
Sherwood thinks Messi will be loving Ronaldo 'tarnishing' his legacy as the pair both head to the World Cup
"I think the little man Lionel Messi must be sitting in Qatar in his camp laughing, looking at it from afar because when you ask players who the best players are to have played the game, it's either Messi or Ronaldo, it's a toss up.
"But my unconscious bias is now drifting towards Lionel Messi, just on the top of this, which is a shame really."
Many ex-Man United stars have stated they don't see a way back for Ronaldo at Old Trafford now after his tell-all chat with Piers Morgan.
And Sherwood is struggling to understand why the Portugal star opted to end his time at the club in this way, rather than waiting for his inevitable departure.
Ronaldo has started just four Premier League games this season having been used sparingly by Ten Hag - and it looks like he wants out
"It's astounding that he's decided to do it, I'm not sure what he's gaining from it. He obviously wants to get out of the football club.
"But Ten Hag wants him out as much as he wants to leave, so I really don't understand the motive."
